Club Origins

Club History

Founded in 1906, Poringland Wanderers FC began its journey in the Norwich & District League, setting the foundation for over a century of competitive football. The club's early years were marked by local matches and community engagement, but it wasn't until 1965 that they stepped onto a larger stage, joining the newly formed Anglian Combination. The club experienced transformative years in the 1970s and early 1980s, with major cup victories and the achievement of senior status. These milestones cemented the club’s reputation in Norfolk football.

Welcome to Poringland

Poringland is a vibrant village in South Norfolk, located 5 miles south of Norwich and 10 miles north of Bungay. Over the past 50 years, the village has seen significant growth with several major developments, making it a desirable place to live.

The village offers a variety of amenities, including a Primary School, Community Centre, Supermarket, Library, Village Hall, Estate Agents, Woodlands, a recently gifted Community Land Space, and a Public House. The heart of the village features the historic All Saints Church, known for its distinctive Norman round tower.

Poringland also has a rich cultural heritage. The artist John Crome, founder of the Norwich School of artists, famously painted “The Poringland Oak,” which is displayed at Tate Britain. The village sign, near the church and pond, commemorates this artistic legacy.

Community Involvement

Community Volunteering

As a community-focused club, we actively engage with local schools, charities, and organizations to promote inclusivity and diversity. We believe that football should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability. Also, we helped plant hedges as a club with the Parish Council. Outside of Tesco's Poringland, we helped to plant a wildflower patch to improve the look of the village. We have previously taken part in Poringland Fete to show our involvement! In Poringland Primary school, we have had coaches train the Primary school students. To show our on going support to Poringland!
